RCIA

RCIA

RCIA is open to anyone seeking to learn about the Catholic faith. There are no strict requirements to join, and no prior religious knowledge is necessary. The journey has several phases:

Inquiry – Participants become acquainted with the Church and learn the good news of Jesus Christ. Typically a 4-month period, but as long as needed to discern readiness before expressing an initial desire to become Catholic and enter into the Church by participating in the Rite of Acceptance/Welcome.

Catechumenate – Catechumens consider what God is saying to them in the scriptures, what changes in their life they want to make to respond to God’s call, and what membership in the Catholic Church involves. A period of 2-3 months or several years before confirming a desire for baptism and participation in the Rite of Election.

Purification & Enlightenment – A 40-day period prayer and self-reflection during the Church season of Lent, as participants prepare to receive the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.

Mystagogy: The new Catholic reflects on his or her RCIA experience, examines how he or she can now live more deeply as a Catholic and share the gifts received with others. This formally occurs in the period between Easter Sunday and Pentecost Sunday, but continues for a lifetime.
